Praying for Our Next Bishop: A Call to Faith and Hope

October 8, 2026

The Diocese of Shreveport is in a transitional liturgical moment. Our diocese is officially in sede vacante, the ancient Latin way of saying our bishop’s chair is empty.

When a diocese waits on Rome, parish life doesn't grind to a halt while we twiddle our thumbs. The Mass is still offered every morning, and confessions still happen on schedule while our Catholic schools hum along with morning carpool chaos. The Church marches on, even when the office coffee pot acts up again, and the parish calendar bursts at the seams.

A bishop carries a massive weight. As a successor to the Apostles, he isn't simply an administrative manager signing off on annual parish assessments and parish boundaries; he carries the burden of teaching the faith and preserving our unity across every single parish across North Louisiana. So while we wait, we pray with perseverance. We ask the Holy Spirit to guide the discernment process, trusting that our future shepherd will be a man of genuine humility and deep pastoral wisdom.

To help us stay united over the coming months, we’ve printed bookmark prayer cards in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. These cards will be arriving at your local parish soon, and you can also download and print them below.

Let's make this quiet intercession a daily habit. God hasn't forgotten Shreveport, and He already knows the name of the shepherd He plans to send us.
