The loss of a child—regardless of age—can have a profound impact on every aspect of your life. This loss may come through miscarriage, stillbirth, illness, accident, malpractice, overdose, war, homicide, suicide, terrorism or other circumstances. When you’re grieving, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and isolated, making it difficult to open up and receive support.
After losing a child, couples often blame each other for their grief or shut down entirely because it feels like there is nothing left inside. This can create resentment between spouses who are already struggling with their emotions.
However, if you learn how to communicate effectively during grief, it can actually help your marriage rather than harm it over time. Wanting answers is part of the process, and seeking healing can help bring understanding and peace to some of those questions.
