As we continue to celebrate Catholic Sisters Week, we are excited to share a short video interview with one of the many dedicated sisters serving right here in North Louisiana. Recently, Sr. Suny Augustine from the Sisters of the Destitute in Shreveport sat down with our Catholic Connections Editor and Digital Communications Specialist, Sophia White, to discuss her life and her call to religious life.
For me, this interview is deeply personal. Back in 2015, I was admitted to the ICU at Christus Highland with severe pneumonia and sepsis. Sr. Suny was one of my nurses, and her care was truly exceptional. I’d never spoken to a religious sister before, but her kindness sparked a new curiosity in me about the Church. Even though our family was not Catholic at the time, she prayed for me and offered constant encouragement after I shared that I was a Christian and asked for her prayers.
Her quiet witness and example of faith planted a seed in my heart. That experience stayed with me, and when our family decided to explore the Catholic faith and enter into full communion in 2017, the memory of her kindness was always in the back of my mind.
We are so grateful to Sr. Suny for taking the time to share her story with us. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Catholic Sisters who serve our community with such grace and devotion.
