Pope Leo XIV

From the Office of Bishop Malone

Public response to the shooting at Annunciation Church, Minneapolis, MN

by The Most Reverend Francis I. Malone, Bishop of Shreveport

August 28, 2025

On behalf of the clergy, religious, laity of the Catholic Diocese of Shreveport, I write to express our collective sorrow in the aftermath of the shooting at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 27, 2025, resulting in the death of two young students.  Additionally, a number of other young students and adults were also the victims of the same assailant while they were attending their “back to school” Mass.

We usually associate a Church building as a place of safety where those who are in attendance at a Mass feel at home while engaged in prayer and worship.  Such was not the case at Annunciation Church in Minneapolis this week where innocent lives were taken or severely wounded in an attack of terrorism, one that will forever stay with the families, friends, classmates and teachers whose entire lives focus on keeping others safe and free from harm.  There are no words to adequately express what we feel at such loss, nor are there words that can convey to parents and family members of the deceased our sorrow.

Unfortunately, we as a nation have become too familiar with similar acts of violence.  All of us want something to be done to bring to an end such carnage, such indescribable acts that defy understanding.  History has shown that few of us have the answers for which we long.  But as a people who know the Lord, we join our prayers with those in Minneapolis for the kind of solace only He can bring to such moments as this one.

On behalf of the faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Shreveport, I offer my condolences to those who now bear the weight of sorrow few of us can comprehend, and the collective prayers of the Church in Shreveport for those who suffer.  May the Lord restore peace to a broken world, and an end to senseless violence and suffering.

+ Francis I. Malone

Announcement of Changes Throughout the Diocese of Shreveport

The Diocese of Shreveport is entering a new chapter of renewal and mission, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen our Catholic communities, enhance collaboration, and ensure the long-term vitality of our parishes and missions. This plan, developed through extensive consultation and guided by the faith-based, data-driven Meitler Study, responds to the evolving pastoral and demographic needs of our diocese while remaining faithful to our mission of evangelization, discipleship, and service.

Beginning July 1, 2025, all parishes in the diocese will be organized in Families of Collaborating Parishes/Missions. Each Family of Faith will be unique but will consist of multiple parishes and missions working together under a collaborative leadership structure.

Our Mission

We, God’s people, gathered with our Bishop and the Diocese of Shreveport, embody the universal mission of the Catholic Church. In developing a Christian Life we are called to praise God, to proclaim and teach Jesus Christ, His life, His work, His word and in the power of the Holy Spirit, we are called to serve as a sign and instrument of Christ’s liberating and healing presence in the world. As Church, we in the 16 civil parishes of North Louisiana challenge and support persons in their efforts to live as Christians, to understand Sacred Scripture and Tradition, to share with the poor, and to participate in a faith community.

Shreveport Martyrs Cause Affirmed

by USCCB

What better way to celebrate the anniversary of the creation of the Diocese of Shreveport than the unanimous confirmation by the USCCB for the continuation on the diocesan level for the advancement of the cause of beatification and canonization of the five Shreveport priests known as the Shreveport Martyrs. Praise be to God!
