Bishop-Elect Michael G. Duca Comes to Shreveport

On Monday, April 1, 2008, Msgr. Earl V. Provenza called a press conference at the Catholic Center in Shreveport. Up until that morning, the details of the conference were kept quiet. When the conference started, we learned that the Diocese of Shreveport would be getting a new bishop – Msgr. Michael Gerard Duca.

At the press conference, Bishop-Elect Duca was warm and welcoming. He said, “I have a great joy in my heart to come to this diocese. I’ve always loved visiting and being a part of the state of Louisiana and I just know that I’m going to fit very well here. And ever since I walked in the door, everyone’s been smiling. It’s a happy and a place that is full of energy and life and so I’m very excited to be here.”

Following the press conference, Msgr. Duca celebrated his first Shreveport Mass with Msgr. Earl V. Provenza and Fr. Peter Mangum at St. Michaels Chapel.

We are happy to welcome Bishop-Elect Duca to our diocese. Look for our special edition of the Catholic Connection honoring him in May.
